Collection of the U.S. House of Representatives
Kathryne Dimmitt’s 1962 portrait of Speaker Samuel Randall was based on an 1891 painting by William Greaves, which in turn was based on an 1879 pastel drawing by C. Adele Fassett. All three works are in the House of Representatives, where Randall served for almost 30 years. Dimmitt herself was also a longtime public servant, working as an illustrator for the Department of the Interior for many years, with this single foray into congressional portraiture.
