Object Details
Following the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech University, Members came to the House Chamber wearing lapel ribbons in the university’s colors. The tradition of wearing ribbons on the House Floor following major events or to bring awareness to particular causes began in the 20th century, notably following the 1993 deaths of two Capitol Police officers killed in the line of duty.
