Object Details

The League for Political Education invited Congresswomen to address its meeting in 1929. Eight women won seats in the previous fall's elections, a new record in Congress. The League, founded “to promote the political education of the new women voters,” was particularly pleased with the increase. In a speech before the group, Representative Ruth Bryan Owen expressed her hope that in the future, “In every council that has the right to settle war and peace, women should have a place.”
