On her first day in Congress, Clara McMillan conferred with fellow Democrat Caroline O’Day in the Speaker’s Lobby just outside the House Chamber. McMillan won her seat in the special election following her husband’s death. She campaigned on her familiarity with her husband’s work; she “felt [the election] would come out as it did” because “I told the voters I would carry on his work.”
