Newspapers often edited photographs of Representatives to suit their layouts. In this case, George Fallon’s half-length portrait was cropped to bust-length. The manual editing process used at the time is evident on the print, through the darkened background. The artist Irving Resnikoff used the same source photograph when he painted Fallon’s portrait as chairman of the Public Works Committee.
