Carey Harrison was a teenager in 1879 when he became a Riding Page for the House of Representatives, a position so dear to him that he kept this badge for the rest of his life. Riding Pages carried messages and papers to and from the White House and other executive branch offices, either on horseback or on the trolleys that ran up and down Washington’s streets.
