The portrait of Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton shows him in the familiar surroundings of the committee’s hearing room in the Rayburn House Office Building. The committee dais, before which Upton stands, is recognizable by its Roman-inspired decorative details. Additional symbols of House service abound: a chairman’s gavel, the Member pin just visible on the suit jacket Upton has tossed over his shoulder, and the American and Michigan flags in the background.
