Shirley Chisholm of New York addressed a group of appreciative interns during the 96th Congress. They knew they were listening to a powerful politician. Chisholm had just completed her first decade in Congress and was a national political figure, a former presidential candidate, and founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
