The Speaker’s Dining Room hosted important events beginning in the early 20th century, and in the 1980s the House commissioned a set of china to suit the room’s impressive marble and gilded surfaces. Lenox, the first American pottery manufacturer to receive widespread acclaim for its fine china, decorated the Speaker’s dinnerware with gold borders and an image of the Capitol. This coffeepot, and the whole set it is part of, used the company’s “Dimension” shape, introduced in 1965.
