Sam Johnson of Texas served for 28 years in the House, but many of the details in his portrait allude to his career before Congress. A decorated fighter pilot in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, a model jet sits on his desk. He was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for nearly seven years, and the POW bracelet engraved with his name rests in the foreground.
