Stickpins, like this one for Ruth Hanna McCormick’s 1928 congressional campaign, made wearing one’s political affiliation a little fancier than the average campaign button. This style was used on hats, scarves, and ties, as well as the usual coat lapel. McCormick knew plenty about campaigning and its accoutrements. She grew up working with her father, Republican kingmaker and Ohio Senator Mark Hanna, before forging her own political machine in Illinois.
