House Doorkeeper William J. Glenn signed this gallery pass for a visitor in 1897. Passes were introduced in 1877 to control the flow of guests to the galleries overlooking the House Floor. Twenty years on, standardized passes like this one, which is engraved with a figure of Liberty holding the House Mace, were provided by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
