In 1965, Martha Wright Griffiths and Leonor Kretzer Sullivan tried out the equipment in a new exercise room, the first for women Members. Soon frustrated by these separate and lackluster accommodations, Congresswomen protested their exclusion from the Members’ gym. The facilities were finally integrated in 1985.
