William Hastings celebrated his first Christmas in Congress by sending a Capitol postcard to his Oklahoma constituents. Hastings grew up in the area he represented, when it was a territory. He became a leader in the Cherokee Nation and prominent politician, presiding over the first Democratic Party convention in Indian Territory, before winning election to Congress in 1914.
