This lapel pin promoted one of Samuel King’s three re-election campaigns as Hawaiian Territorial Delegate. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War I, King dedicated his career to pursuing statehood for Hawaii. As a Delegate in Congress, he paved the way for this goal in ways from the obvious—introducing bills for Hawaiian statehood—to the logistical—championing legislation to create pathways to citizenship for his constituents. His goal of statehood was achieved just months after his death, in 1959.
