Reminders of legislative accomplishments over the course of many decades fill the background of Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman’s portrait. Many Representatives' offices display mementos bills that became law, but few span as long a career as Waxman, who arrived in Congress in 1975 and retired 40 years later. During his service, he chaired two committees and wrote a book on “how Congress really works,” a copy of which is in his portrait’s foreground.
