Object Details

Rows of lights (and bells, too) alert Members of Congress of activity in the House Chamber. In the 1960s, when lights were added to the 70 year-old bell system, new electronic wiring communicated with the master call system in the House Chamber. This example of a “star bar controller” once operated a row of star-shaped lights installed in the Rayburn House Office Building.
