On January 3, 1937, Nan Honeyman visited the House Chamber, where the next day she would be sworn in as a Representative from Oregon. After she took the oath of office, she told a reporter that she intended to “keep my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut,” during the first session. She largely fulfilled that pledge, but she appeared eager to get to work in this shot of her standing near the House rostrum.
