This photograph was taken shortly before Winnifred Huck won the nomination to run for her late father’s House seat. She pledged to continue William Mason’s positions. During his congressional career, Mason was an avowed pacifist. He was one of the first American politicians to advocate an independent Cuba following the Spanish–American War and to recognize an autonomous Irish Republic. During her short tenure, Huck vowed to look after the needs of married women and families and to promote world peace.
