A newspaper illustration in 1895 showed the busy Ladies’ Reception Room in the Capitol. The room was set aside for women who were in the building to speak to their Members of Congress. Summoned from their desks in the House Chamber by calling cards bearing the name of the visitor, Representatives met women in this cramped space in Statuary Hall.
