Winnifred Huck won the special election to fill her father’s seat in 1921, and became the third woman in Congress. Huck, pictured here on the rostrum, was comfortable on the House Floor. In her brief time as a Representative, she disdained the custom that required new Members of Congress to remain silent and offered opinions on a variety of issues.
