Stereoviews, which gained popularity during the 1850s, are images that become three-dimensional when viewed with a stereoviewer. To highlight this effect, photographers favored long hallways or other architectural designs with great depth. This view of the Capitol’s East Front colonnade shows off the stereoview’s unique perspective.
