One towering stalk of Indiana corn stretched toward the sun on the steps of the Capitol in 1937. Representative John W. Boehne, Jr., held the nearly 17-foot-tall crop steady as it swayed in the breeze. Because of agriculture’s place in the nation’s history, crops and farming have long been featured in sculpture and painting around the Capitol.
