William Hill Boner served in the House from 1979 to 1987, representing Tennessee. Boner was the final Member to participate in a longstanding House tradition—reading George Washington’s Farewell Address on the House Floor. Initially an occasional practice, the reading became an annual event in 1933. Boner provided the last reading on February 19, 1979.
