The portrait of Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus includes some of his most prized possessions. The model trains are just two of the many trains, railroad maps, and train advertisements that decorated the walls of his Rayburn office. Bachus’s love for railways was handed down from his grandfather, an engineer for Southern Railway. He bought his first model train—a green Southern engine, on the credenza behind him—in the 1980s. The Alabama state flag and a map of Africa allude to Bachus’s Alabama roots and interest in international debt relief.
