Object Details

This carte-de-visite shows Albert S. Pillsbury and his mother, Elizabeth Pillsbury, not long before Albert moved from Massachusetts to Washington, DC, to serve as a Page in the House of Representatives. Albert’s older brother Elliott had been a Page for several years before Albert’s arrival in 1862. Many Pages were, like Albert, around 11 years old when they began their House careers.
