Speaker William Bankhead carefully carved a 25-pound turkey for a staff luncheon in the Capitol in 1938. House Parliamentarian Lewis Deschler (left rear) introduced a tongue-in-cheek resolution, electing Bankhead “Master of the Ancient and Honorable Order of Turkey Carvers.” For his new fraternal role, Bankhead received a “beribboned turkey bone” and a petite wishbone to wear on his lapel.
