Capitol Hill transformed into a playground during the Easter egg roll of 1928. “The hill furnished excellent rolling facilities,” explained the Washington Post. More than 30,000 people attended festivities around the Capitol and the White House grounds. Children took over the subway between the Capitol and the Senate, transforming it into a “scenic railway” after the Vice President decreed that they should all get a ride.
