Object Details

Construction proceeded apace on the newest House Office Building in 1962. The granite polygonal wall that supported the floors above echoed Renaissance architectural conventions, but was not universally popular with Representatives. The building opened in 1965, named the Rayburn House Office Building for the former Speaker who promoted its construction.
