Lady Bird Johnson, First Lady and fellow Texan, dedicated the statue of Speaker Sam Rayburn in the new building that bore his name, just a few years after his death. Rayburn was the longest serving Speaker of the House, and an early mentor to President Lyndon B. Johnson, seated to the right.
