Object Details

Modest in his sloganeering, George Dondero claimed “a good record in public service” for himself on this 1930s campaign matchbook. He wasn't exaggerating. Dondero brought to the House experience as a mayor, school board member, and public prosecutor in the Detroit suburb he represented. Once in Congress, he chaired the Public Works Committee for two Congresses, leaving his stamp on many civic projects.
