In the 19th century, this hat tree and umbrella stand held the accessories of Representatives in the Capitol. The photograph shows Speaker Joseph Cannon’s beaver top hat, which he kept throughout his long House tenure. In 1920, the hat tree was presented to Clerk of the House William Tyler Page as a wedding anniversary gift.
