Twenty-seven Members of Congress in this print were “caught in the familiar attitudes of the street,” according to the accompanying article in Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Weekly. Artist Valerian Gribayedoff captured informal poses of the Representatives, some of whom seem to squint at the viewer, whereas others are so hurried they virtually walk off the page.
