Collection of the U.S. House of Representatives
This lithograph postcard was part of the campaign in support of Representative Julius Kahn’s effort to bring the 1915 Pacific–Panama International Exhibition to San Francisco. Kahn’s bill, which requested $5 million in federal funding toward the project, was sent to the House Committee on Industrial Arts and Expositions in late 1909. The inspiring imagery includes an allegorical Victory, a workman, the golden bear of California, surrounded by the bounties of the state, and a ship passing through the famous Golden Gate. San Francisco hosted the exhibition in 1915.
