Object Details

At the start of each Congress, a massive shuffle of offices takes place. In 1948, employee C.M. Bates sorted nameplates for the doors of new House Members arriving the following week. One hundred eighteen Members began their House service in the 81st Congress, one of the largest groups of freshmen in the institution’s history.
