In 1933, modern-minded Members moved into new offices. The rooms boasted built-in file cabinets, wall-mounted fans, and desks with a plastic finish guaranteed to resist stains, burns, and acid. The New House Office Building, later named for Speaker Nicholas Longworth, was built and furnished well under budget, a feat much touted in the economically depressed times.
