Object Details

This ballot for a 1940 primary marked a future Majority Leader's first formal appearance on the political scene. Hale Boggs ran for Congress soon after graduating law school and won both the primary and general election. Boggs’ wife, Lindy Boggs, ran his subsequent campaigns, and succeeded him in 1973. Jointly, the couple held the Louisiana seat until the 1990s.
