This sleek, geometric, standing ashtray was once used in the House of Representatives, most likely the Longworth House Office Building. Its modern Art Deco style was trademarked as the “Smokador: The Ashless Ashtray.” The ashtray stand was an ideal solution for the House. The stylish receptacle retained smoke and was easy to clean. A Ball’s Mason jar, concealed in the neck, collected a cigarette’s debris. Exuberant advertisements glorified the Smokadors’ attractive design and efficiency. It was “easy to fit into any decorative scheme . . . so practical.”
