Virginian Daniel Morgan was a Revolutionary War legend: the frontiersman who won battles through courage, ferocity, and raw ability. He later became a gentleman farmer and Representative, but this print showed him in his signature backwoods buckskins. In 1861, when the image was commissioned for the book Eminent Americans, Morgan’s rustic days were deemed more exciting than his sedate later life.
