This straight-forward campaign button promotes Elizabeth Furse, who represented her Oregon district from 1993 to 1999. Her support for minority and women’s rights was a lifelong interest, beginning with her anti-apartheid activism as a teenager living in South Africa. After becoming a U.S. citizen, actively supporting of the United Farm Workers movement, and directing the Oregon Legal Services Restoration Program for Native Americans, Furse served three terms in Congress, where she focused on women’s rights and affordable health care, and spoke out against nuclear proliferation.
