The 1978 Republican baseball team posed for a team photo before the 46th Congressional Baseball Game. Veteran manager Silvio Conte led the team to a 4-3 victory in Four Mile Run Park, and the Washington Post named Members Walter Fauntroy, Gary Myers, Martin Russo, Joel Pritchard and Lou Frey, Jr., as outstanding players. Although the game was generally all in good fun, it was not taken entirely lightly. Winning pitcher William Cohen was quoted saying, “When I’m on the mound I take the game very seriously. Last year I hit five players with the ball and accidentally caused Fauntroy to go to the hospital.”
