Eva Clayton was the first African-American woman elected to Congress from North Carolina. Her celluloid campaign button has a simple and clear design: printed in the middle of the white button in dark blue ink is “Eva Clayton for Congress.” “1st Congressional District of NC,” and her campaign slogan, “The Best for the First" define the border.
