James Knox Polk was the first and only President of the United States to have served as Speaker of the House. Polk served as Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, and later as governor of Tennessee before his Presidential campaign in 1844. Considering the title at the bottom of this image, this autographed print was most likely completed during his Speakership.
