The House Chamber from the perspective of the visitor’s gallery was popular among stereoview photographers. The remarkable features of the Chamber—the George Washington and Lafayette portraits, marble rostrum, Brumidi fresco, press gallery, and elaborate Walter desks—could all be included in the image. The angle also creates perspectival lines, which accentuates the three-dimensional effect when seen through a stereoviewer. This particular view could have been purchased just up the street from the Capitol, at the Bell and Brother photographic studios on Pennsylvania Avenue. On the reverse side of the card, the publisher printed a detailed description of the House Chamber, which could serve to remind or educate the viewer on décor and design of the space.
