The personal is political in Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank's portrait. In 2012, Frank became the first sitting Representative in a same-sex marriage, and his portrait includes his wedding band and tie. The rainbow and American flags in the background allude to his longtime support of gay rights and public service. Congressional directories from his first and last years of service stand on his legendarily messy desk, held up by bookends that recall his congressional district's whaling history.
