In the 1950s, the Walt Disney Company created a television miniseries about the life of the legendary David “Davy” Crockett. It was so successful that Disney licensed the sale of Crockett coonskin caps, bubble gum, and lunchboxes. This glass depicted the frontiersman heading to Washington, under the caption “Coonskin Congressman.” The show's theme song characterized Crockett's six-year House service as “fixin' up the government an' laws as well.” On losing reelection in 1834, he promptly abandoned his political career to raise a group of volunteers to fight in the Texas Revolution.
