The Science Committee, led by Ralph Hall of Texas in the 112th Congress, is one of the youngest standing committees, first created in 1958. It is also the only committee for which the House has portraits of all former Chairmen. Hall was not, however, the first Texan to chair the committee. That distinction belonged to Olin "Tiger" Teague in the 1950s. The Hall portrait includes several elements frequently found in 21st century congressional likenesses: an American flag, a spouse's photograph, and a state flag.
