SPROLE, William T. S.; a House Chaplain; born in Baltimore, Md., March 16, 1809; attended Princeton Seminary, Princeton, N.J., 1827–1828; licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Baltimore, Md., 1829; ordained in the Presbyterian Church, 1831; pastor, First German Reformed Church, Philadelphia, Pa., 1832–1836; pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, Penn., 1837–1843; pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C., 1843–1846; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the Twenty-ninth Congress (December 17, 1846–March 3, 1847); chaplain and professor, United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., 1847–1856; pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Newburgh, N.Y., 1856–1872; pastor, Second Congregational Church of Detroit, Mich., 1874–1877; died on June 9, 1883, in Detroit, Mich.
