SNETHEN, Nicholas; a House Chaplain; born in Glen Cove, Long Island, N.Y., November 15, 1769; itinerant minister, Methodist Episcopal Church, 1794–1800; 1809–1811; ordained in the Methodist Church in Charleston, S.C., 1800; secretary, general conference, 1800; member, general conference, 1800–1812; farmer, 1806–1809; writer; editor; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the Twelfth Congress (November 4, 1811–July 6, 1812); minister in Louisville, Ky., Cincinnati, Ohio, and Zanesville, Ohio, 1830–1845; died on May 30, 1845, in Princeton, Md.
