SHERWOOD, Henry, a Postmaster from Michigan; born in Avon, Livingston County, N.Y., February 22, 1844; farmer; United States Army, 1862–1864; staff, United States War Department, Washington, D.C., circa 1865–1868; staff, Michigan state house of representatives; elected Postmaster of the United States House of Representatives for the Forty-third Congress (December 1, 1873–December 6, 1875); elected Postmaster of the United States House of Representatives for the Forty-seventh Congress (December 5, 1881–December 4, 1883); assistant postmaster of Washington, D.C., 1883–1890, 1894–1895; postmaster of Washington, D.C., 1890–1894; staff, United States Postal Service, 1899–1916; died on January 9, 1916, in Washington, D.C.; interment at Arlington Cemetery.
